When I Said I Wanted a Day Off… I Meant OFF!

ree

Y’all. Let me tell you somethin’. You betta go ahead and plan those days! Plan to rest!

I remember the first time I tried to take a day off from the classroom for real. Not for a PD day or a “working from home while sick” kind of day. I mean a real day off. A "no lesson plans", "no calls from school", "let me sit in my robe" kind of day.

But baby, that wasn’t what I got.

Instead, I got phone calls. Texts. “Where’s the seating chart?” “What time do they go to lunch?” “He said he could go to the nurse whenever he wants...is that true?”

Ma’am… I’m supposed to be resting.

I'm a Family Mama First

Now, I’m a teacher. A dang good one. But I’m also a mama and a wife. And when I take a day off, it’s usually because something really needs my full attention. My kids, my health, my mental peace always need my full attention.

I realized that part of the reason I couldn’t rest was because I hadn’t set myself up to do so. I didn’t have a system. I didn’t have a proper sub plan ready to go. And Lord knows… if the sub ain’t got the details, the day’s gonna unravel like a Dollar Tree paper towel.

So I Made a Sub Binder That Covered Everything

I got tired of scrambling, so I sat down one weekend and created what I now call my Sub Binder for Sanity. I mean everything went in there:

  • Daily schedule

  • Routines and classroom expectations

  • Seating chart

  • Nurse and behavior notes

  • Emergency drills

  • And yes, even what not to let the students talk you into

It’s written plain and clear. A sub who’s never taught a day in their life could walk in and make it through the day like they’ve been there all year.

Now When I’m Off… I’m Really Off

I don’t answer phone calls. I don’t check my email. I don’t feel guilty.

Because I know my class is taken care of.

And that’s exactly why I decided to put my Sub Binder up for other teachers who are in the same boat. You shouldn’t feel like the world is gonna collapse just because you took a day off. You deserve peace and a plan.

Need One for Yourself?

I’ve bundled everything I use into a simple Sub Binder you can plug your info into and be ready for any day off—sick days, mental health days, or those “I just can’t today” days (we all have ‘em).

It’ll be the best gift you give yourself all school year.

Sis...Bro.... Take Your Days! Plan Your Days! You Deserve It!

You’re not just a teacher—you’re a whole human being with a life outside that classroom. Don’t let a lack of prep steal your rest.

Get your sub binder together, close that laptop, and go enjoy the day like you mean it.
